It has been a pleasure to have Liz as my daughter’s oboe instructor for the past 4 years. Her perspective as an educator and professional musician has inspired my daughter to embrace and remain committed to a challenging instrument. We appreciate her patience, positivity and flexibility. We were able to continue instruction through COVID without missing a beat.

Just a short note to express my deep appreciation and gratitude for Liz’s coaching and encouragement. Last night I attended my first rehearsal with Philharmonie Mundi de Montreal. I am playing 4th oboe in Mahler 1. What a treat! A really good semi-professional orchestra, a great conductor and an amazing oboe section. She helped me make a wonderful dream come true.

I am thrilled to share my experience working with Liz Eccleston, my oboe instructor. After a long break from playing the oboe, I was eager to pick it up again and rekindle my love for this beautiful instrument. Liz provided the perfect fit for exactly what I needed to “get back in the saddle” of oboe playing. She not only helped me improve my skills but also opened up a whole new musical world to me. Liz is an exceptional teacher who truly cares about her students’ progress and success. She was patient and supportive as I navigated the challenges of getting back into playing after such a long hiatus. She has a keen eye for detail and always provided insightful feedback that helped me improve my playing technique. I appreciated Liz’s approachable and friendly attitude, and she always created a warm and welcoming environment in my lessons. She made me feel comfortable and confident to ask questions and try new things, including reed making, and restructuring my embouchure. She always had a positive attitude and a great sense of humor, which made the learning process enjoyable and fun. Thanks to Liz, I rediscovered my love for the oboe and she helped me find a whole new community of musicians where I can share music. No matter what age or stage of playing you may find yourself at currently, I would highly recommend Liz as an instructor.

Liz was a great fit for lessons for me in my Junior and Senior year of high school because not only does she have a vast knowledge about all things oboe, but she was a fantastic guide for all of the emotional ups and downs of auditioning and deciding what the next step in my musical journey would be. While I ended up deciding to go down a different degree path outside of music, the experience of learning to push myself to improve with Liz’s guidance has helped me in my career as an architect. My technical skills improved greatly under her tutelage, and I still think about all the tips and tricks she gave me when I play with local community ensembles, especially for hitting the low notes with great pitch control and tone.
